The storage of ammonium nitrate usually should be realized in separate single-story warehouse structures of at least II degree of fire resistance in accordance with Russian standards. At the same time, the maximum allowable amount of stored ammonium nitrate within the fire compartment should not exceed 5000 tons, while the simultaneous storage of 25000 or more tons is allowed in the Baltic countries (Latvia, Estonia). Authors attempt to substantiate the unification of fire safety requirements for ammonium nitrate storage in Russian and foreign standards by calculation and analysis.

The article provides the analysis of the GOST R and IMO MSC/Circ. requirements determining the quality of foaming agents used for fire extinguishing by foams. There are presented the differences and similarity of testing approaches, as well as the possibility of equipment usage for testing according to various acting standards in the context of Russian standards and the Maritime Register of Shipping.

There is performed the series of calculations to estimate the temperature in premise during a fire in ventilation-controlled mode, because the maximum temperature achieves in this case. There is considered the extreme case of heat exchange with the walls of the room - isothermal case. The case of fire in buildings such as warehouses and car parking is examined.

The method for substantiating the design solutions of bridgeworks in terms of fire resistance is proposed. The use of regular thermal mode is the basis of the method. The proposed method makes it possible to perform calculations without using high-performance computer tools. The necessity to improve methods for justifying fire resistance limits is substantiated. A brief description of existing methods and the example of calculation are given.
